You have my moral support. What you are doing is NOT EASY!
A few thoughts:
Do they have any free play? Refreshments? After being in class all day, I would
think that they would need a break from academics for at least 15 minutes.
If you don't have enough volunteer tutors, could you use the older students to help
the younger ones? Both ages could benefit if the children are matched well.
With only having one other teacher occasionally and two rooms, that seems like a
big problem unless you have a dependable volunteer you can count on to supervise
each day. If not, you need as assistant.
Note of caution: No bigger child should be alone with a younger child - all
children need to be supervised.
