Post: 4th grade, balloons, and Picture Day

    Posted on 11/04/09

I'm trying to teach my 4th graders a dotted half bordun.
Before putting them on tone blocks (because that's all I
have for pitched instruments....2 sets at one of my
schools), I was having them practice the bordun on balloons.

Before beating balloons with rhythm sticks I wanted to make
sure they could follow directions and not get distracted by
    a balloon (y'know 4th graders)....

So I had them move the balloon above their head, in front of
them, behind, and back above their head. Then I had them
lower their balloons slowly onto their head.

    And rub.

They ALL did it! They made their hair static-y and stick
straight up! They did this without a single resistance!

    And....today was their picture day!

Ha! I'm loving teaching 4th graders Music!
