    Re: Upsetting day
Posted by: Gulf War Vet on 11/05/09

As a vet now trying to live with PTSD from the first Gulf War I
have always felt very uncomfortable with Veterans Day. I usually
take the day off and go visit a local Veterans Cemetery. I really
think some of the patriotic things we teach in school are an
indoctrination that makes me feel uncomfortable. I've been told
the part about fighting for our freedom but no longer believe it.
Soldiers are trained and ready to do just that and have on many
occasions. The problem is we no longer closely examine the reasons
for going to war. The Vets should be honored but taking the stand
our country always right frightens me.
