Okay, I LOVE the idea of file folders with themed songs in them. I
think that's a great idea -- maybe a tub with all of the stuff too? I
don't know -- I'm thinking out loud here.
For my Kodaly III class, one of the things we had to do was to create an
index of songs that we would use for each skill. This wasn't supposed
to be EVERYTHING we have with that skill focus (I think that would be
crazy!), but each skill should contain about 5-8 songs in it --
depending on the skill level. Well, of course, I got it done for class,
then I cleaned up the mess that it created, and moved the notebook.
Now, I have no idea where it is -- so this year has been more of a
challenge than what I thought. Ugh!! So, that's part of my big summer
project this coming year.
Here's my problem though -- and maybe we can put our heads together and
figure it out. I'm certified in both Kodaly and Orff, and I'm trying to
combine them in the classroom. For example, I'm trying to plan by skill
and use the Kodaly sequence, but move Orff activities and process into
my lessons because they engage EVERY child. I want my kids to sing, but
I want them to do so much more too. Having both philosophies in my
classroom helps that. However, I'm not sure how to keep track of Orff
activities. Should I include speech activities in my index with skills?
How do I include poetry and folk tales too? These are the problems I'm
having. Hmmmm. Not sure how to solve it at this point. Any ideas?
I did LOTS of purging last summer -- so I know I have the most important
resources in my house -- it's just a matter of using them well. I think
this will be an ongoing project -- until I die! :)
Happy new Year!
