In regard to the 5 minutes between classes, when a teacher
begins to have a habit of being late, I buzz the office and
have them locate the teacher. Once they know that you will do
that, it normally corrects the problem.
As for teachers who consistently bring them very late, I would
remind the teacher that you need the full scheduled music time
in order to carry through and meet the objectives in your
lesson plan. If it continues to be a problem, I would let
administration know.
With your special needs children, do you have an aide that is
in the classroom with you? If not, is there an aide assigned
to these students in other classes throuhout the day? If the
student is disruptive to the point that they are disrupting
your instructional time (and there is an aide assigned to the
student), I would ask that the aide accompany the student to
the music room. I would meet with the special education
teacher to see what she suggests would be helpful.
As for your planning time at the close of the day...is this
your only scheduled planning time of the day? If so, you
should have an uninterrupted planning period as every other
teacher. I would bring that to administrations attention. You
should not have to be responsible for "crowd control" during
your planning time.
