i have been teaching pre-k through 3rd grades for 20 years. Next year I will be teaching a week at my current school and a week at the middle school grades 4-6. Not too concerned about the fourth graders, but not sure about the other two since lessons have not been continuos for them. Any good suggestion that would teach notation and rhythm as well as simple harmony? I have no specific curriculum but do have some old 4th and 5th grade materials. I will be in the honeymoon stage with this school and am hoping for some technology as well. Just give me some ideas of what has been some great lessons for you. Thanks

4-6th Especially for your 6th graders, I would look for some opportunities to get hands on with "real" instruments.

I love Orff too, but by 6th grade kids are pretty aware that the only real place you are ever going to hear an Orff ensemble is in music class.

Keyboards, guitars, drum circle, etc.

Thanks! I may start out with a short "What do you remember/know about music?"
