Post: Audacity, my new best friend

So, I discovered that music teachers in my area were using this free recording system online to record live. Since I teach middle school, when kids audition for honor choir, you have to send in a recording of each of them singing the required song. Well, I used this audacity program and it is so EASY. What you do is download the software from the internet, insert a microphone into your computer, and then hit the record button. (For the microphone, I went to Best Buy and got a Logitech mic (25.00) that has a USB cable on the end of it. When you are done, click file and "Export as a WAV file." Then, drag the icon into Itunes and either put it on your Ipod or burn a CD. I have been able to do loads more than just recording individual students. I can put the microphone on my keyboard and play accompaniments, individual parts, sing individual parts for individual sections while playing the piano, etc. I can have sectional rehearsals and don't need 4 piano players. If you haven't tried this program, you should. It is really easy. I know I am just doing the tip of the iceberg, as you can lay down multiple tracks and do a wide variety of other things. Check it out!
