Post: classroom procedures

Posted by JosieCat on 5/07/08

it's official, I will have my own room next year! (yay)
However we will be in the process of converting the old
computer lab in to a music room over the entire course of
next school year. Good news, dedicated space. Bad news,
there are many built in work spaces (desks) which will not
be removed immediately, and I will have to work around for
    the time being.

That aside, I am really concerned with starting off on the
right foot with my students coming in to a dedicated music
space. I've kind of adapted procedures, depending on which
classroom I was in, following along with their house rules
with a few bits and pieces here and there thrown in. My
question is, what are your procedures for K-5? How is your
class time broken up? Do you do seating charts? Rewards?
Consequences? Procedures for using instruments, entering and
exiting the class? Set up and break down of equipment?

How do these things change between a music classroom and a
    cart?
