Congrats on your own class room! That is so exciting.
Here are my procedures and they work really well for K-5.
1. Follow All Directions
2. Listen with out making noises
3. Play without falling down
4. Raise your hand to talk
5. Respect each other
I keep track on my seating chart who breaks what rules, like I'll
have bobby's name and a number 1 by is for not following
directions. If there are no numbers by the students name at the
end of nine weeks, they get a star to put on the wall at the
front of the class. If they get a 4 stars they get a certificate
at the end of the year.
My students favorite one is number three but occasionally I'll
get the wise guy who says, what if it's an accident, or what if
I'm pushed my someone else. I say, then some one is making a
poor choice aren't they. And that takes care of a lot.
The students are to come in and listen to instructions. Some
days we need a book and some days we don't so that important.
Usually I have some music on for noise control. If I can't hear
the music then it is too loud. Most kids start singing along
which is fine.
For consequences I have the word RESPECT on the board. If the
class is not following the rules as a majority, I erase the T. I
give them three "warning" letters, T, C, and E. Once I hit the P
it is five minutes of recess and the number goes up with each
letter.
If the class keeps the entire word on the board their class gets
a sticker on the chart on my door. Ever five stickers there is a
prize like music game day, instrument day. There favorite proze
is when they get to pick the songs in music class. If a class 3-
5 gets to 25 stickers I do a big prize like in class DANCE DANCE
REVOLUTION.
I hope this gives you some ideas. Enjoy your new room.
