Posted by lis on 5/15/08 Six more days with kids. I had to leave early today b/c my daughter got sick. But get this, before I left this morning the assistant principal asked if I could have some of the kids do a little entertainment for the Awards Assembly, which is TOMORROW!!! This is my first year at this school and she said the music teacher before me always had something planned for awards day so she just forgot to ask me in advance. That kind of puts a guilt trip on me since it is my first year at this school...but I told her I would have to have more notice (duh). It has felt very strange all year because this school does not have a chorus, band, or any type of performing group. I have always had a chorus at all of the elementary schools I've ever taught in before. This is the first year I have not had to do any kind of after school practice or any performance (except at Christmas). We have a HUGE school and most of the kids ride the bus in the afternoon. I am trying to figure out how to have a chorus and Orff group next year. (It's a third and fourth grade school only). It would have to be after school hours. It has kind of been nice NOT to have the worries and headaches of a performing group, but on the other hand it is a shame that everything is so academically oriented. Sorry I have strayed WAY off the topic. Just rambling....
