I ran cross country for 4 years in high school and everyone on the
team (including the coach who also ran with us) would shower after
practice. This was in Texas at a suburban school district. The
facilities were nice, but the shower was a big gang community
deal. Despite the absence of any privacy, everyone on the team
used it, along with tennis, swim, volleyball and basketball teams
depending on the season. In general, the student athletes were in
good shape--many beautiful bodies and little or no modesty. But
there wasn't really any option most of the year, with temperatures
in the 80's and up, we were drenched with sweat after a work-out.
There was no place to hide--you came in and got undressed and in
the shower ASAP to cool off.
