I have a bachelor's in Exercise Science and am returning to
school for PE. Congrats on your decision! I initially
wanted to get a Masters in PE, but in my area found that,
despite my background in fitness, I needed 2 years of
teaching experience to enter a Masters program. Therefore, I
am returning to a university that offers the PE degree as
either an undergrad OR as a post-bacc certification program.
Both tracks are about 2 years and will allow me to teach when
completed, but the undergrad degree includes a minor of my
choice (coaching, health, adaptive phys ed, etc) which will
make me more marketable.
I do agree with Linda that need to uphold the creditability
of physical education for our children. A healthy lifestyle
should be PROACTIVE, not RETROACTIVE! We are responisble for
showing kids that being healthy is fun and can be a way of
life.
My suggestion to you is to research universities in your
area. If you hold a bachelors degree, you can most likely
enter a 2-year program. Best of luck!
