Are preschool age children too young for assigned seats
Judy2/CA My own child went to a DAP preschool. They sat on the carpet for "whole group time" and worked at tables otherwise. There was very little "sitting down" time as most of the day they were involved in centers which were hands on - no paper/pencil. I wouldn't be interested in a preschool that was modeled after an elementary school.

I use name tags at snack time to assign seats (mostly to work on name recognition. But sometimes it's to place a specific child in a specific spot). I don't do assigned seats at Circle Time or any other time of the day.

not at all... But, they don't have to stay the same every day.

Have a table top name tag, and assign the seats however you see fit each day. Or create a grid on the floor for a "home" spot for everyone there.

This allows you to separate kids that conflict, pair up kids that need a friend, give kids a chance to recognize their own name in print ...See More
