I was in this position last year! I was hired as a middle
school math teacher at the school where my children attend.
Fortunately, I had been subbing for the previous 2 years in
different grades (K-8) so parents had been accustomed to
seeing me in the front of the class.
It was a little difficult to switch gears, but I do enjoy
knowing my children's teachers better. Also, when parents
call and ask for guidance with their children's homework,
one of the first things I can do is tell them that I am in
the same position in my own home. That alone puts them at
ease and helps them realize I can see both sides of a
situation.
Being a parent is a great asset in that one area. Also, when
you do you have parent teacher conferences, you may already
know some fo the parents. That makes it easier. You just
have to be careful about tlaking to your "friend" about your
job (since that job may be their child's teacher).
