Our small Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is
a designated Title I school, and has been for many years. The
teacher is employed by the Los Angeles Unified School District
(LAUSD). She follows their schedule and is totally supervised
by LAUSD. LAUSD, several years ago, brought in a mobile
trailer unit and "rents" the land on which it sits for $1.00
per year to keep within the directive of not operating on
church-related property. We are qualified to receive the
Title I service (reading only this year) through our
socio-economic classification and the results of our ITBS
(Iowa Test of Basic Skills) results, though we have fewer and
fewer who qualify each year. We have found our Title I
program very successful and value it greatly. Our services
vary from year to year according to funds available and our
own school population. We have been blessed with some
wonderful Title I teachers. Generally, they work around our
schedules and religious and non-religious programs, and we
adapt to LAUSD requirements (very few). I really think you
would enjoy teaching Title I at a Catholic school and hope
this helps clear up any confusion
