I am not sure what type of institution you are interested in,
but if you want a tenure-track position at a 4 yr research
school you absolutely need a doctorate, plus likely postdoc
experience to be a competitive candidate. A doctorate in Ed for
a science professor is useless. You need a research degree.
Check the The Chronicle for open positions and their requirements.
