I teach Art History and Design in a very small art department at a Junior College and I've been asked by the Academic Dean to have my students build a stage set for a school play. I was wondering how other professors handle these requests. I patiently told her that I was teaching a 2D design course and a Foundation Art Class. I mentioned I would be teaching 3D design over the summer but I was sure how I could have my small class build her a stage set in 5 weeks and still cover all the SACS requirements for the course (that have nothing to do with stage design). There is no money involved and she wants me to fit it into my curriculum now since the students will not be paid. I would love to hear ideas from other teachers. How do you handle these requests?
