“I believe in the right teacher at the right time, at the right place."
I believe a great educator can be this teacher, regardless of the
place. I've been fortunate enough to teach in very poor urban
districts, poor rural districts, affluent private schools and in the
suburbs. Good instruction is good instruction and I have been able
to find ways to identify with all of my students.
Maybe I have just been very blessed. It could be because my own
childhood was such a dichotomy. My dad was adopted by a very
affluent family and my mom grew up in the projects. I think I was
the only girl I knew who had a father who sent her to charm school
and a mom who taught me how to fight using roles of pennies and
bricks in my book bag! lol
Some teachers seem to bloom where they are planted while others have
a definite niche. (I don't see anything wrong with either scenario.)
Thanks for posting this article. It was very interesting.
