Post: More Children's Lit

I just finished reading two children's lit books this week,
with another three piled up on the night stand.
The first was The Jacket by Clements. THe same one who
wrote Frindle. It's too easy for those of you into your
fifth grades now, ;-), but I just love how Clements handles
such serioius topics. Frindle is one of my favorite
children's lit books. The Jacket was very short; 89 pages,
and many were pictures. It's a story about a boy who
accuses another boy of taking his brother's jacket. The
accuser is white and the accusee (sp?) is black, so issues
of racism are dealt with. The topic is treated subtly and
