Re: Not prof reading, but has anyone read "South of Broad?"

I am SO glad to hear your reviews! I thought it was one of the more
ridiculous books I've read.....perhaps ever. I had high expectations
so maybe that was part of it, but even if I'd had low
expectations, it would have been a disappointment.
It was bad all the way through, but the ending was beyond anything
I've ever read. Nothing led up to it and it had little to do with
anything..other than the fact that it was sensational. And, the
impact of that ending....on Charleston? on Leo's mother? He never
said! The novel was so poorly structured and, while I love Conroy's
description, one can be overly descriptive as he was here.
'Disappointed' is putting it mildly. Thanks for getting back to me
because I've fussed over it all day thinking I am getting all too
critical in my old age. Now, I'm reading the most beautiful novel,
though......"Amy and Isabelle" by the brilliant Elizabeth Strout who
has become my new Ann Patchett. So, I guess in reading, as in life,
things pretty much even out
