Yes. It can take until a child is 6 or 7 or sometimes much
later for an LD or dyslexia to show up. As the words get
harder, their underlying weaknesses come out.
You might want to check out www.ldonline.org. She may or may
not know her letters but even knowing her letters doesn't make
it easy to recognize them at a distance. Children are taught to
expect letters to be in an order - and those letter charts at
the doctor's office have no logical order to them.
'Seems lazy' is a classic description applies to children with
reading issues - you might also want to check out anything by
Mel Levine - a pediatrician who writes about learning issues
and who wrote a book called The Myth of the Lazy Child.
