Tell them this - tell them that in your experience teaching -
and subbing - and from the time you spent in the middle
school where you taught that it seems to you the differences
between the grades are these.
8th graders are cool and jaded and live with one foot out the
door of Middle School and the other on a skateboard (if
you're in CA) or the traditional banana peel.
Tell them that the 6th graders are the very last year of
childhood though they yearn to be more and that the 7th
graders are the roller coaster year in between the two.
That's all true by the way. 6th grade became my favorite
grade because you could still play a bit with them, they
could still laugh without being wild and over the edge like
7th and they weren't jaded.
I think your Title 1 experience will land you the job -
everyone wants someone that might have a magic wand or even a
magic cure these days that will make the weak readers strong.
