Starting a new Job

I will soon be starting a new job as a middle school reading teacher working with small groups of students in grades 6-8. This is funded by a grant with the purpose of improving the reading skills of a targeted group that the reading teachers feel can best benefit from small group instruction. Here are some questions. What suggestions would you offer for the group selection. What skill strands would you recommend as your focus and what resources would you feel to be the most valuable in yhid type of situation? I have taught many years in many different situations including many years in special education. Thanks in advance.
