Just a few thoughts to consider--
In my area, even private and chater schools are responsible
for their state test scores. In some places, even moreso
than public schools. Since charter and private schools need
to compete for people's business, their survival relies on
things like test scores.
Many private schools (not all) don't have as many resources
to deal with special education and other needy students. As
a result, you'll have to work harder to make all students
successful, without the support of counselors, special ed
teachers, remedial classes, and other support systems.
While I don't think special education teachers
should "enable" their kids as you suggest, I do think there
are many services available that do benefit struggling and
special needs students.
And, from a teacher's point-of-view, the pay and benefits
are often less than public schools. And there may or may
not be a union in place.
But on the positive side-- you may tend to get more
supportive parents at charter and private schools. And the
parents will demand results-- from the students and the
teachers. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Just thought I'd throw out my thoughts. I wish you luck and
success wherever you end up-- public, charter, or private.
