Re: Round Robin Reading

I don't need more research to tell me round robin has a place in reading groups! I have used it here and there along with other techniques. Used properly, it teaches children to follow along while a story is being read. I almost never go around the table but stop at the end of a random sentence and call out another reader's name. If one child is not attending, I ask the group to go back to the previous sentence so that Johnny can hear the sentence again. I use round robin with everyone, but on a much more limited basis with very struggling readers. I make sure it isn't a cold read for them. Round robin got a bad name but it certainly is an effective technique to use by reading teachers who understand the nuances and how to keep a group moving along. When I taught first, I could listen to my whole class almost every day. Maybe I should write a heretical book "Bring Back Round Robin".
