It's important to note that, in a recent study of comprehension measures (appeared in Scientific Studies of Reading in, I think, 2006), the GORT was found to be seriously flawed. The problem with the test is something called "passage independence" of the test items. It was found that a large number of the questions could be answered correctly without having ever seen the passage. Interestingly, a comparison was made with the QRI and it was found to be a much better measure of comprehension. You're right that the QRI is not standardized, which can pose a problem in some circumstances, but it is a more valid measure of reading comprehension than the GORT.
