RR teaches kids how to read and write, LiPs is just p.a. The book on it was a joke as well. Grab a copy of Clay's Becoming Literate and it has a huge reference section (Oh, and so does the Observation Survey!). The Lmb manual had hardly any. Heck, my research project had more! My school got rid of RR and hired a LM guru who was trained in all of their programs. With two RR teachers, 30 low first graders were at grade level by end of year, as evidenced by the DRA (L16 at my school). During the year with the LM guru, 0 kids were grade level at the end of the year. We no longer have LM at my school and this woman, who was also hired to give inservice classes on LM is also gone.
