Re: Scholastic Read 180
Posted by Missy on 5/29/08
I have taught this program for 3 years in a middle school and
have seen some amazing gains in my students' abilities! I do
agree though that it takes a dedicated teacher willing to use
the program as modeled by Scholastic. I too add in my own
supplemental materials, which has worked well. I have seen a
teacher that did not follow the program and unforuntately her
students (SPED) showed little to no improvement, however another
SPED teacher implements it accordingly and has had much success
with her students. This program is by far better than most I've
seen and is worth the price. My only concern is that new
research supposedly states that Read 180 can now be taught in
classrooms containing up to 21 students. If this is an
intervention program designed to focus on giving struggling
students more individualized attention in smaller groups, why
are they upping the class size to what is generally considered a
regular class size?
