Re: dyslexia / middle school

I suggest speech/language testing that is done by a speech
pathologist. This student may have an expressive and/or receptive
language disability and that is why he is having trouble with
directions, processing and comprehension. Language does not refer
to English as a second language, but rather refers to the ability
to express, understand and process language (word meanings,
passage meanings, following directions, proper grammar, etc.) The
speech pathologist may also recommend that a full battery of
tests be done to cover all the bases. A full battery of tests
would include academic as well as IQ testing. Some of the tests
will test memory and working memory. Working memory means holding
something in memory while doing something else. This is important
for following directions.
