It is the role of teachers to teach children how to think and do
research, even if their parents don't want them to learn. It is
not necessary that children reach particular conclusions, but it
is necessary that they learn how to research for themselves
rather than parroting their teachers or radio-talk show hosts.

The evidence for global warming is much stronger than you seem
to think. I would suggest doing some more research on it yourself.

Arguing with a 10-year-old is indeed pointless, but teaching the
class how to research a subject and reach well-reasoned
conclusions (and how to deal with willfully ignorant people) is
what elementary science education is about.
