I would suggest The Hot Zone. It's about an Ebola outbreak in
Reston, VA. The book gives a very accurate description of previous
Ebola outbreaks and gets extremely graphic - giving students that
gross factor that they like.
I had students read a couple chapters and was surprised at how
interested they became in the book. We went into an entire
discussion where I ended up describing the entire book for them. A
few of them then went home to research Ebola on their own and came
in the next day to ask more questions. The fact that Ebola is
'gross' intrigued them.
