Re: Stacy - Question regarding the notebook - Zodea
    Posted by: Stacy8NC on 6/29/09

    Hi Guys,
I got busy with summer and couldn't check back for a while! I had
the same problem with page numbering too. Thanks for bringing that
up. The idea about numbering the assignment 5 and adding 5 A, 5B, 5C
as they use additional pages is excellent. I'm going to use that
    idea next year.

    Left-side/Right-side issue.
I was wishy/washy about this, which I do not recommend. So, I need
to make up my mind. My initial rule was teacher input goes on the
right side and student output goes on the left side.
Often, my teacher input would be longer than one page of paper,
especially if the student had large hand writing.
Kids resist "wasting paper" and they see not using the back of the
page as wasting paper. On the other hand, they need the left side
for their output and it would mess up the flow of the notebook if
they were randomly putting teacher input on the right side. So, my
conclusion is that I should stick to my rule of input on the right
side and output on the left. If input takes more than one left page,
    then so be it.

My classes used 3 composition notebooks a year.

Students used glue sticks about 2 times a week, sometimes more.
Sometimes, we made pockets for things to slip into, like vocabulary
wheels. Pockets could be made from ziploc bags or from cardstock.

I use a lot of foldables, vocabulary, warmups and writing. All of
this went into the notebook. I used glue sticks to glue the
foldables into the notebook either after it was used. As long as
nothing was on the back of the foldable, nothing was lost in
translation. Some things did need to be redesigned. Students used a
post it note to define a section in the back of the compostion book
for vocabulary. All handouts are glued into the notebook. Some are
shrunk to fit. Some are folded into a 4 X 4 square and glued in.
The only down side is that things can't be double sided.

    I hope this helps.

I brought home some notebooks to look at this summer to try to
improve my strategies for next year. If I can post some pics, I'll
    put up a link.
