Re: Animal dissection in classrooms - should it be happening
As someone who is currently working in Cancer Research (and has
for 20 years) - I am moving on to teach next fall...PETA has
played an important part in making science more ethical.
Believe it or not, there are researchers who don't care about
the health of the animals they test on, as well as a majority
that do care. The Humane Society and PETA have worked to give
lab animals more space and force researchers to have protocols
approved by animal welfare committees before proceeding.
Although I live in fear of the more extremist of the PETA - type
organizations, they do have a beneficial part to play. PETA
should keep doing what they are doing in a non - violent way,
while research keeps moving forward (and, hopefully, finding
ways not to test on animals).
I would no more have a world without PETA, than I would a world
without Cancer research.
