Re: Independent Reading/Pre-noting?
I teach Biotechnology to high school kids, but I think you
could take this idea and use it in middle school.
Last year I went to NSTA in New Orleans and I remember an AP
Biology teacher gives her classes pre-reading, but only of the
captions.
I don't do this, but that is where I got my idea. My kids have
to take notes on the pictures in their reading section. My
book happens to have lots of great pictures that corrolates to
the text. I then give them a picture quiz. I show them a few
of the pictures from the reading and they have to explain the
importance of each. Students had to read the text to
understand the pictures.
