Been retired for a year now. Been fun. Been restful. But I just cannot shake the notion that I'm not "done" yet, that I've more to give.

Been offered a science "guru" position at a Florida elementary school, one where I would do a "hands on" activity with all classes (with teacher in tow) and act as advisor for all matters scientific in the school.

It's a newly created position, one that I would have a LOT of leeway and plenty of funding (title 1 school).

I wouldn't be your friend though, if I didn't caution you to get the complete job description up front.

My previous district had a similar position in the Title schools. Some of the coaches taught; not all of them. They did lots of "test" stuff. Remediation, intervention, data analysis, that type of thing. The...See More

Am visiting the school Monday and that Is one of the things I will ask about.

They haven't given me a written contract yet. They spent all day yesterday fumbling around on that - they fiddle too long and I just may change my mind.

bill T/Fl I wasn't ready, really. Did it mostly because I was having bariatric (weight loss) surgery and knew I could not focus on that (it involves MUCH more than the surgery, believe me) and be in the classroom full time. Wolfing down my lunch in 15 minutes (for example) I could never do with a lap band in place. I'd choke for sure!

Melody Shaw Bill, You have pretty much described my current job! I will begin my seventh year in the fall teaching a hands on nongraded Science Lab. I love it!
