I have taught SPED kids in both situations. My question is this...why are we being forced to place all children in the same pot? These kids all are different and need different amounts of help. If they are a higher level, being in the classroom may be a good thing but not with constant teacher intervention. That teacher needs to help kids needing it whether they are SPED or not. This keeps the SPED child from being singled out. Other SPED kids need more help and need to be in a much smaller environment with a great deal of one-on one intervention. We need to stop fitting all into the round hole. Some are square pegs! This also applies to Gen. Ed.
mssteach2nd Very well put Barbara! We need to teach in a way that reaches all learners and provide help/ support/ differentiation for all students, sp ed and reg ed. "If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." Ignacio Estrada
