    Re: prohibition in the south
    Posted by Jason on 11/19/08

I actually love this subject and did a 13 page paper in my
junior sem in history class in college. One of the neatest
and most interesting parts of my research I found was
reading all the stories about the producing and
transportation of illegal liquor (moonshine)in the rural
parts of the South. Some of these areas include Dawsonville
Georgia and Wilkes County North Carolina. Events and
circumstances surrounding prohibition era South is actually
responsible for the birth of stock car racing and NASCAR.
Some of the more known names they may want to look up is
Raymond Parks, Lloyd Seay, Roy Hall, and Red Vogt. To get a
good perspective on it, I reccomend taking a look at a book
entitled Driving With the Devil: Southern Moonshine, Detroit
Wheels, and the Birth of NASCAR by Neal Thompson
