Post: Writing Prompts and Social Studies

    Posted by Terry on 1/01/09

I'm interested in incorporating writing that will reinforce
state testing skills. I teach in NJ. My students will take
the 6th grade form of NJ ASK. This year the test will
include persuasive, speculative and narrative writing
prompts. Does anyone have suggestions or examples of
writing prompts I can use or know of a site with examples
appropriate to Social Studies. Below is an example of one
that I wrote but am looking for more as I find myself
    struggling with this.

    • Prompt: When he used the Rosetta Stone to decode
hieroglyphics Champollian must have been proud of himself.
Write about an event when you felt pride in yourself.
Explain why you felt proud & how the event has affected
your life in a positive way. Be sure to explain using
    details & examples.
