Post: Teaching the Magna Carta
Posted by 7th grade teacher on 1/04/09
We have a textbook, but it is not great, so I have been
mixing that with other activities such as simulations,
hands-on projects, etc. So, this year we started out with a
unit on world religions, then Roman Republic, Roman Empire,
Crusades, Byzantine Empire, Middle Ages, etc. The religion
unit and the Middle Ages took a LONG time, but I think they
were very valuable. We had some unexpected days off due to
bad weather. This just leaves me with about a month to
teach Renaissance, Reformation, Age of Exploration, etc.
The 8th grade teachers want to make sure we cover the Magna
Carta well, to get them ready for next year. (We go into
our state history for the second semester).
So, any ideas on what is most important to cover during this
time, and any successful ways you have taught these
subjects? I have some things planned for the Renaissance,
but I was especially wondering about memorable and different
ways to teach about Martin Luther and the Magna Carta.
