Re: What kind of notes do you give and how do you give them?

I start out with guided notes (see below) and gradually teach
them to take their own notes thru examples. The notes below
are the first time they would take informal notes (after a
lesson on taking informal and formal notes on the basic
needs).
Directions: First, read all the titles, headlines, captions
and words that are bolded. Second, read the information about
the Focus or Main Idea and Vocabulary for the lesson. Third,
read the questions at the end of the lesson or chapter.
Lastly, read any question at the end of a section before you
do the reading. The question is an important clue to what you
should be learning.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS DO THIS QUICK PREVIEW. PAYING
ATTENTION TO THESE GIVES YOU VALUABLE INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT
YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LEARN AND REMEMBER FROM THE CHAPTER.
1. What is the Chapter Title?

2. What is the “Main Idea” for this lesson?

3. Write the definition for each of the vocabulary words
below.
4. At first early people were hunter-gatherers and then a
major change took place in how early people got their food.
What was this change and how did it affect early societies?

5. Use the space below to create informal (pictorial) notes on
the section “Effects of Change”. You need to draw 4 ways that
early societies changed. We will create formal notes on this
in class.
