Re: What kind of notes do you give and how do you give them?

Greetings,
How did we go from lecturing our students and forcing them
to take notes to storytelling?
By the way, I am a huge fan of storytelling in the
classroom. I think active listening is a skill students
should be practicing every day, unlike note-taking.
If your principal asked how you were going to begin your
lesson today and you told her with storytelling, and then
lectured the students and made them take notes on it, I
think she would note the discrepancy in your evaluation.
Maybe it's semantics, perhaps storytelling is a cute
euphemism for lecturing, I guess it really doesn't matter
since we could go in circles for days on this one.
If it matters, I wasn't implying that your beliefs are
archaic, I was just trying to make an analogy with the help
of some exaggeration.
Obviously, I don't know you and haven't seen you teach, so
it would be idiotic for me to pass judgment. I hope you
believe me when I say that I simply enjoy discussing
classroom topics when school is out. As I tried to clarify
before, I learn a lot here and never approach discussions
with the notion that my way is the right way, just the wiser
way. :)
