I'm assuming LD is language development...
At first I spent more time on vocabulary with my English
learners until I found they were often outscoring my native
speakers. Then I upped the vocabulary with the native speakers
and their scores rose as well.
My point of that little anecdote is that, in my area at least,
the difference better ELs (as California calls them) and native
speakers is very, very minor. The biggest challenge is getting
ELs to buy into your program which is the biggest problem with
natives as well. Make it fun, make it relevant, maybe give a
little extra vocab support but ultimately good teaching is good
teaching.
