Post: Frustrated at the prospect of finding a job
Posted by: Luke on 10/08/09
Hi guys, I don't know if anyone else has gone through this,
but it seems like every time I mention that I want to be a
social studies teacher I get a "woah, I don't think anyone
told this guy yet" look, and then a spiel about how it's
really tough to get a job teaching social studies. It
sounds silly, but I've almost given up before really even
trying. I left college for a few years, and went back to
school with a real conviction that this is the type of job
I'm meant to do.
I went back and a few years later I have a history degree,
passed my praxis, and was hoping to find a school that
would put me on through like an alternate route program. My
plan right now is to sub and get to know the administration
somewhere, and then try and get my way into a position. I'm
in Philadelphia now, but from NJ, close to NJ, and thinking
I"ll be moving back to NJ in the near future.
Can anyone from either of these areas give me advice on
finding a job? I'm starting to wish I could have gotten my
Bachelor's in Physics or Math, but it's too late for that
now. Any advice?
