    Re: Ning and Wordles
    Posted by: Amity on 11/03/09

A Ning is a social network. I don't recommend diving in
unless you are pretty confident in managing a network. Mine
    is open for process observers.

A wordle is a word frequency tool.

We used it in Spanish 2 by taking everyone's nouns from their
homework (which was to describe summer vacation) and putting
them into a wordle. (I gathered the nouns by using a Google
form, and making it open to all, so people dumped their nouns
into the form and voila, it came up in a spreadhseet with
    everyone's nouns).

Once this was done kids pasted the nouns to the wordle.

The most used nouns are large. The frequency is depicted by
    size.

Now we are using these wordles we made using the same data set
to study our words. We want to KNOW all the wordle words so
we can understand each other when we speak about summer
vacation. We did the same thing for verbs, adjetcives,
    adverbs.

Feel free to join dirigospanish.ning.com and see how I use
    them.

Go back to Wordle. Take a common text, say, the declaration
of independence. Paste it in the create box. You will see
the frequency of words and understand what the major concepts
    of the document are about.

I made one for grad school to share my teaching philosophy.
Here it is. Note the largest words--I used them the most.
