Re: Preterite and Present Tense in Same Chapter - advice?
Anne V.,
I really don't have advice about that, except lots of
worksheets, book work, practice, practice, practice. That's
how I would handle it. (Maybe not the best way, Idk). I take
that back. I did do a quick review of some stem-changers with
my Spanish II class a couple years ago because they forgot
about how to conjugate those forms, which were important for
getting the right preterite form. (Is that what is happening
in your class?)
Side Note: I'm curious as to why these students are learning
present tense and the preterite tense at the same time?
Usually, the students are taught all of the present tense,
irregulars and all. Then, they are taught the preterite. Are
you having to do some backtracking? If I remember correctly,
you're teaching from ¡En Español!. The irregulars are
taught in Spanish I. In level II, they go onto the preterites
right at the beginning, and then the imperfect.
P.S. I'm still getting e-mails on "a" vs. "para." So, I
haven't synthesized it yet for you.
