It probably was a typo. Most times I type really fast without
reading what I've written to make sure it's spelled correctly. You
are correct. "An" is only supposed to be used in front of a word
that starts with a vowel sound. However, I'm not sure when the word
that follows is the name of a letter. I've kind of vacillated on
that one. For instance: "It's a N" or "It's an N", "It's a A"
vs. "It's an A"——at least in speech. Pretty sad, since I'm a native
English speaker. Maybe there are exceptions to this rule that I am
not aware of. Who knows!
