Post: Tigres del Norte: Awesome article and vids!

My friend Enrique, correspondent for the site from México
DF, has just written an absolutely awesome article on Los
Tigres del Norte. If any of you are looking for a great way
to introduce current day Mexico into your class, this is it!
Since I am from Atlanta, I particularly loved the story he
tells about how Los Tigres del Norte helped his friend feel
close to his dear Mexico, even from afar.
After an introduction explaining briefly the origin and
frank nature of the corrido lyrics, he showcases 5 songs
from the group and their videos. The five songs he has
chosen are great for class since they could spark discussion
on a variety of topics, such as censorship, drug
trafficking, the definition of America, and more.
My favorite video of the 5 is surely "La granja". Wow!
Ready for an incredible Animal Farm-esque metaphorical
critique of the current Mexican environment in a post
Vicente Fox administration? It has already been banned.
That's why we should discuss it in class!
Enrique's articles always help me to learn so much. I hope
that this article helps our students to better understand
our wonderful neighbors to the South!
