Post: REVISED ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS!
My name is Jennifer Roman and I am a Graduate student at
Hofstra University. I would appreciate if you could answer
these questions in order to help me collect data for my
action research paper. The more details the better.
1. When is the first time in school that you took a foreign
language class? How many years did you further your
education in this language? 2. If you had the choice to
take a foreign language class earlier in your education,
would you and how early? Do you think you would have
learned the language easier if you took classes earlier? 3.
Do you remember foreign language classes being more
interesting or less interesting than your mainstream
classes and why? Did you find a foreign language class more
or less challenging than your other classes? Explain. 4.
Are you proficient in another language? Did you become
proficient by studying this language in the classroom or
did you study abroad? 5. Do you think that the United
States values other languages other than English? Do you
think this is reflected in the education system? Explain.
6. Do you feel that knowledge of another language would
help students in other academic subjects? Please specify
what areas and why? 7. Is it a graduation requirement for
high school students in your district to pass a foreign
language class? 8. After No Child Left Behind Act, has your
school district increased or decreased the number of
foreign language classes offered? 9. As far as you know,
what are the foreign languages offered in your school? Are
foreign language classes offered to special needs children
in your school? 10. For future generations, do you think
knowing another language could help solve global problems
and help fight against terrorism? Explain.
Please indicate what level you teach and in what country.
Thank you very much for your time and any additional
comments are welcomed!
