WOW. Today I was tell that pampered middle school students, and do not send homework practice in the holidays break, because its to harsh. What kind of teacher Ill become,if I listen to administrator and do what they want. Do you stay in the job and become a clown for the students.

I want to quit ;-(

michael Same!! I know I am demanding and my classes are rigorous, but I did not assign any work over the break which started today. Most of my students are going away over the break anyway...why fight it? I just go with the flow and my life is much easier!!!!

Ryan I seldom assign homework anyway. There are countless studies for and against homework, but I just do not believe it's beneficial. I find a small handful of students actually take time to do it. An even smaller handful put a legitimate effort into it. Why bother with it?

no homework over break.. If the homework is because their behavior has been so horrific you got behind on teaching-- or because kids failed and you are giving extra work they can do to pull up their grade to passing-- then okay give homework as a punishment. Monica :D Like Tyler and Michael, my classes are extremely rigorous. Yet I never assign homework over a holiday/break. I have never done that. As a mother, I hated it when my daughters had so much homework we could barely do anything fun during a break. And later on, there were law suits in our district and now we are not allowed to give homework over a brea...See More

no hw over break Break is supposed to be a break from school. To spend with family. Why would you give them homework?
