If you have a very strict grading policy where there are no
late assignments ever (which most of the teachers at our HS
have), this really is an essential element. Life happens
sometimes although many of our HS teachers believe that the
kids need to learn that just because life happens you are
still responsible for getting whatever it is in on the date
it is due or a 0 for the assignment no matter what it is
worth.
While I fully support learning how to turn things in on time,
until the day where all adults get 0 pay on the day where
they are missing something or don't quite have it all
together, I feel that some method of allowing for a few
mistakes along the way is only fair.
Whether it be a complete pass where they don't have to do the
work or a late turn in pass may be the question, but I
honestly think that the expectations that life doesn't happen
is ridiculous.
